The Light in the Tunnel

The Chronicles of House Repair continue. I'm rather thankful I don't have to pay for any of it. :)

I got all my food yesterday and filled the fridge and freezer. Well, the fridge is not filled. The freezer is packed to the gills. Here's something fun the new fridge does: When I close the fridge door, the freezer pops open on its own! Isn't that great? I think I'm going to get a child-safety latch for the freezer door. Preferrably one that sticks, so it can stay there FOREVER.

My name is Deltasierra, and I'm an appliance snob. I suppose I have other reasons to hate that fridge, but the fact that it's CHEEEEAAAPP is the main one. BUT, it keeps my food cold, and it's better than no fridge at all.

The plumber came out today to replace the part in the bathtub knob. He also tried to tighten up the sink faucet, which jiggled a little, and snaked the drain. That was VERY VERY ICKY. I'm NOT thinking about The Grudge . . . I'm NOT thinking about The Grudge (or any other Japanese curse movie ever made that involves water and clogged drains) . . . *shudder*

I had him look at the sink in the master bedroom, which leaked out from under the faucet knobs (kind of like the bathtub did, but not as violently), and he was thinking it would have just been a matter of tightening the screws that held the knobs. Not so! He told me he would have to pick up some parts, but couldn't be back till Monday. No problem – the leak really wasn't that major, and I don't use the sink that frequently. However, after he left, I noticed his flashlight was still on the bathroom counter, so I called him and he said he'd turn around. Well, he discovered an Ace Hardware nearby and picked up the parts, so he just went back up and fixed it for me. Hooray! Fixed plumbing!

Well, I'm going to have to have the landlord call him back, because the toilet downstairs has a big ol' gushing leak, too, which my dad just discovered this evening. I'll call about that tomorrow.

Mom and Dad came over for dinner tonight, and I was going to have Mom watch Babysierra while I went with Dad to Home Depot to exchange the drain hose for the washer for the right size hose. However, while I was cooking, Dad went down and poked around, and discovered that the washer already had its own drain hose, all retracted inside the machine! He pulled it out, and voila! Instant, perfectly-sized drain hose! Hooray! He attached that to where it needed to go, and attached my dryer hose for me, too. Then he cleaned both machines, because they were extremely filthy. I need to run an empty load to get the rest of the gunk out before washing clothes (and I just turned the water utility over to my name, too . . . ), but it's pretty much ready to go! That's good – I will need clean clothes soon.

I tell you what – I think I've missed having a dishwasher. It's kind of nice to load the thing up before bed and turn it on and forget about it till morning. If I had a load of dishes in the sink before, I would either ignore them till morning, or have to do them before bed. Blecch. I often opted for the former. Only thing is, I don't want to run the dishwasher and clothes washer at the same time, so I'll wait till morning to run my non-load and do a load of laundry.

Lessee, what else . . . I went to the complex where the post office is located, intending to order a new lock for my mailbox (and mail a check from my previous landlord to my bank, but I forgot the check, so oh well), but I completely forgot about that when I saw garbage cans outside the Ace Hardware. I'd ordered garbage service from the local pickup company, and they don't provide cans like Kitsap's Waste Management does. They provide a recycling container, but not a garbage can. So I bought a 32 gallon can, dropped it off in my car, and headed over to QFC to get a few groceries for dinner tonight (and some beer for Sweetie's drink fridge – and some root beer for me :)). By the time I got out of QFC, it was too late to go to the post office. *Sigh* Must remember to do that TOMORROW!

But, now most of my utilities and addresses are changed. I still need to check Verizon, but the site was being so slow today that I just didn't bother.

Okay, I've rambled enough. I should go to bed now. I've been going to bed too late this week, and I need to be rested, because I'm picking Sweetie up late tomorrow night! Pray for good weather in Boston, so his flight doesn't get delayed!

Night!

you should tell the landlord about the freezer door just opening like that.

The new refrigerator definitely has issues. If nothing else get a child safety latch to hold it closed, they only cost a few dollars and will really help to keep it closed.

I'm glad your Dad was able to get your laundry room set up for you. Having a working washer and dryer is very nice. But oh so important when you have a little baby in the house (isn't amazing how much laundry someone so LITTLE can produce???? You have never mentioned reflux so luckily BabySierra doesn't produce the vast quantities of laundry that Kay produced but I'm sure he makes PLENTY on his own!)

I have to say though that one of my favorite features about the dishwasher in this place -- well actually about the only feature on the dishwasher in this place that I like to tell you the truth, my old dishwasher did a much better job, is the delay function. I can load my dishwasher, put the detergent tab in it and set it to start in 2-4-6 hours. I love that. It's nice, I can have it run in the middle of the night so it doesn't interfere with baths, showers or the the washing machine.
